Affordable Housing Could Increase by 9,000 Units in Austin

The drafted rules increase the potential for income-based affordable housing by up to 9,000 units. The units could be spread out in areas across Austin. Currently there are just 1,500 available to those with incomes below the area's median income (AMI).

Chief Economist Warns Housing Prices and Income Gap Growing in Texas

Well known economist James P. Gaines from the Texas A&M Real Estate Center, told a group of home builders in the Tyler, Texas area that the increasing gap between household incomes and housing prices is a critical issue facing the housing market in Texas. According to Gaines, household incomes are rising at a fraction of the pace of home prices.
