On March 11, HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge announced her retirement. Fudge did not give a specific reason why she is leaving President Biden’s cabinet, did add that she was leaving with “mixed emotions.” Fudge was picked by President Biden in 2021 to lead the agency as the nation faces a severe housing crisis, worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn.

Adrianne Todman, who is currently the Deputy HUD Secretary, will become acting HUD Secretary once Fudge’s resignation takes effect on March 22.
